Dvorak: Symphonies 8 & 9

Gramophone's Choice

"Fischer's CD is a consistent joy and I can recommend it thoroughly." --Gramophone

The eagerly anticipated release of Dvorák's most popular symphonies, including "From the New World", from the award-winning team of Iván Fischer and the Budapest Festival Orchestra. The "New World" Symphony with its best-loved Largo was Dvorák's expression of the emerging influence of America. The work received its first performance in New York in 1893. The Ninth Symphony is, however, clearly rooted in the Czech folk tradition which inspired all Dvorák's orchestral writing.

Though less well known, the Eighth Symphony is another hugely popular concert work, demonstrating Dvorák's rhapsodic lyricism at its most inspired. With their innate sense of Slavic rhythm and lyricism Fischer and the Budapest forces perform these great expressions of symphonic invention from the heart, allowing the music to dance in a way which sounds fresh and new, whilst at the same time being completely authentic.
